Cadenhead's Old Raj Gin Blue Label

Produced for Cadenhead's, the venerable Scottish independent bottler of spirits that is owned by J & A Mitchell & Co Ltd, the proprietors of Springbank Distillery. Old Raj Gin has been produced since 1972 and bottling takes place in Campbeltown, Scotland. This quality floral gin has a slight yellow tint due to the addition of the saffron, a valuable and rare ingredient that is added post distillation.

The botanicals used are Juniper, Coriander, Seville orange peel, Liquorice, Angelica root, Orris, Cinnamon, Cassia Quills, and Nutmeg. They also produce a 46% ABV version but we much prefer this overproof bottling. It is juniper forward with notes of orange peel and a subtle floral saffron note. Its flavors hold up really well when mixed and diluted due to it's alcoholic strength. We especially like it in a Vesper Martini as when it's shaken, it blooms.
