The El Tequileño Distillery lies in the heart of Tequila town and this bottle is the spirit of choice in the Batanga Cocktail made famous at La Capilla Bar just down the road. This is a mixto Tequila that is composed of 70% spirits made from Blue Weber agaves and 30% spirits made from organic piloncillo, a Mexican brown sugar. For those of us reared in the era when Tequila went premium and only 100% agave Tequilas were acceptable for drinking, finding a quality mixto Tequila took some getting used to. However this is no Cuervo Gold. They take great care producing the sugar spirit and the resulting Tequila tastes surprisingly agave forward. Dry and clean with some agave sweetness, pepper, and citrusy notes, this is a fantastic option for mixing into cocktails at an incredibly approachable price.
