Rivers Antoine Royale Grenadian Rum

Made at a Grenadian distillery that dates back to 1785 with basically unchanged processes in the ensuing 2 and a half centuries. The only Caribbean distillery with a mill still powered by a wooden water wheel that dates to 1840. The juice is gravity fed to their fermentation tanks where it is fermented with ambient yeasts. Double distiled in copper pots, they make 2 marques at the distillery: the "Local" expression is at least 75% ABV, and the "flight proof" bottle here which is for export and for tourists so that they can legally bring it on the plane. A time capsule bottle of rum that is wild, oily, and feral with notes of mint, tropical fruit, and peppery complexity. Shockingly drinkable for the high proof. A bucket list bottle of Rum!
