Real Minero Largo

A "Minero" describes someone from the Mezcal mecca of Santa Catarina Minas, a village about 1 hour south of Oaxaca CIty. It is one of the cradles of Mezcal Ancestral which involves pit roasting, hand mashing of the cooked agaves, and distillation in clay pots. Real Minero is a brand owned by the Angeles Carreno who have produced Mezcal in the village for at least 4 generations. Due to a dispute with the government certification body for Mezcal, they decided to stop certifying their spirits so they cannot legally be called "Mezcal" any longer. None of their processes have changed and it is still Mezcal as far as we are concerned.

Largo is an Agave Karwinskii that is commonly known as Tobasiche in other areas. It is green and bright with notes of cinnamon, vegetation, and agave sweetness. Like many clay pot distilled spirits, it has a wonderful mouthfeel and texture.
