Homles Cay Single Origin No. 4 Reunion Island Rhum Traditionnel

46% ABV

Reunion is an island in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar, that is a protectorate of France. This Rum was produced by Distillerie de Savanna in Saint-André and bottled by Holmes Key. Made from 100% Molasses and distilled on a stainless steel column still, it was aged at the distillery for 3 years in ex-Cognac casks. It was bottled without chill filtration nor the addition of sugar, colorants, or any other additives.

Rhum Traditionnel is a geographically indicated style of Rum, much like Rhum Agricole, from the island of Reunion and made from Molasses. It is the closest version of "Martinique Rum" from the 1950's that is called for in many classic tiki cocktail recipes from "Trader Vic" Bergeron and Donn "The Beachcomber" Beach. At that time, most of the rhum produced in Martinique was made from molasses, with cane juice Rhum Agricole not becoming widespread until years later. That makes this bottle a wonderful ingredient for cocktail enthusiasts looking to recreate accurate historical tiki cocktails. Notes of cola, baking spice and vanilla with a touch of citric acidity.
