Home Base is the project of twin sisters Ali and Sam Blatteis, Oakland natives whose aging and blending facility is in Berkeley, less than 1 mile away from our shop. We have featured their delicious whiskies at the bar for years. This is batch 1 of a California Corn Whiskey made from 100% organic Yellow Dent corn from the Sacramento Valley. It was distilled at Corbin Cash in Atwater, California and aged in ex Home Base Bourbon barrels at their facility in Berkeley for 4.5 years. Unlike Bourbon and Rye which by law must be aged in charred new American oak barrels, Corn Whiskey must be aged in un-charred barrels or used cooperage. 

Our only real point of reference for the category is Mellow Corn from Heaven Hill distillery. That whiskey is 80% corn vs. 100% organic corn for this bottling. This whiskey is delightful with corn sweetness, some toasty popcorn notes, and surprising drinkability for a bottled in bond spirit. An easy sipper that would also mix well with citrus.
