Bottles labeled "Aperitivo" in Italy refer to a category of bittersweet liqueur of which the best known example is Aperol. They are sweeter and less bitter than those labeled "Bitter" of which the best known example is Campari. Bordiga is a distillery located in the town of Cuneo which is near Turin in Piemonte, Italy. They produce a range of Vermouth, Amari, and spirits and source all of the botanicals that they use from within 50 miles of their distillery. They infuse each botanical in neutral spirit separately and blend them for the final product.
Their Aperitivo is low ABV and a bit more bitter than Aperol. The predominant flavors of Bordiga’s Aperitivo are aromatic herbs, citrus (mostly bitter orange peel) and rhubarb (Chinese rhubarb root). It is used in a number of classic Italian aperitifs, such as the Spritz (three parts Prosecco, two parts Aperitivo, one part soda water, over ice) or by itself with a splash of soda water.
