Bodegas Hidalgo Oloroso Faraon

18% ABV

A delicious and classic Oloroso from one of the finest Sherry Bodegas in Spain. Dry, nutty and rich, it is a delightful aperitivo and pairs wonderfully with hard cheeses, beef, and game. Serve at room temp or out of the refrigerator. Should be stored in the refrigerator for maximum freshness.

Producer notes:
Faraón is a dry Oloroso made using the traditional oxidative aging system. Palomino Fino grapes are harvested from the prime Balibiana and Miraflores vineyards, naturally fermented, and immediately fortified to 18% so that the yeast never forms. Never forming a veil of yeast means that this oloroso is a slightly less dry style (4-5 grams residual sugar). The solera averages 12 years of age.

Oxidative aging for 30 years produces a dark woody color with aromas of honey, caramel, walnut and hints of bitter chocolate.

Faraón was the local name for the Guerilla fighters who battled Napoleon’s army in the Peninsular War (Napoleon referred to them as the “Spanish ulcer”). The label depicts a Faraón and his telltale hat. 18% ABV.

Bodegas HIDALGO LA GITANA was founded in 1792 and since then the firm has passed from parents to children, being today one of the few companies in the framework, managed by the family and directed by the eighth generation in direct line of the founder. Don José Pantaleón Hidalgo founded in 1792 the Hidalgo Winery, when he bought a small storage warehouse from Don Roque Vejarano. Although it would be during the nineteenth century when the company would grow to become one of the most important producers of Manzanilla in the world. The name refers to its flagship product, “Manzanilla LA GITANA”, endorsed by several relevant international awards, is the most popular Manzanilla both in the national and international market.
