"Amateco" is what you call someone from the village of San Luis Amatlàn in the Sierra Sur region of Oaxaca. This is an Ensamble of Espadin and Madrecuixe made by Maestro Mezcalero Diego Lucas Garcia. The 9 year old Madrecuixe and 8 year old Espadin are roasted in stone lined earthen pits with encino wood and mashed with a mechanical mill. The mash is fermented with ambient yeasts in wooden tanks and distilled just once in a copper Refrescadera still. On the nose it is flinty with some earthy and roasted agave notes. On the palate it is intensely mineral with some sweet agave fruit up front and a dry finish with some olive brine and vegetal notes. This is a special bottling to commemorate Pride month with a rainbow colored label and neck tag.
