Pinhook Vertical Series 10 Year Bourbon
57.9% ABV
Pinhook is an independent bottler of American Whiskey based in Louisville, Kentucky. It was started by a Sommelier/bar owner from NYC in partnership with a "Pinhooker" from Kentucky. Pinhooking is the practice of purchasing young horses based on lineage, training them, and reselling them at a much higher price. This is how they saw their whiskey project as they would purchase barrels of new make spirit, and then age/blend/bottle them themselves.
Their Vertical Series was an experiment in aging of barrels from a single batch of distillate and seeing what it's like year after year. This is the sixth release in the series which started as 1350 barrels of bourbon from MGP distillers in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
Tasting Notes:
Blended from just 75 barrels, this year’s Vertical Series Bourbon showcases a deep nose of burnt orange, brioche, butterscotch, and clove, and leads to a rich palate of brandied cherry, salted caramel, candied pecan, and cinnamon stick.
