Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky

45% ABV - Whisky - Japan

Made from 100% malted barley distilled in a Coffey still. Technically considered a "Grain Whisky" and not a "Malt Whisky" because it wasn't produced in a pot still. Also not technically a "Japanese Whisky" according to current law as some older batches contained a small amount of malt whisky from the Ben Nevis Distillery in Scotland before being redistilled at Nikka. Aged in used oak barrels. Rich and malty with a silky mouthfeel and weightiness on the palate.

About Nikka Whisky Distilling:

One of the 2 titans of Japanese distilling, the other being Suntory. Founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934. He had learned about whisky making in Scotland at the Hazelburn distillery in 1918 before returning to Japan to help found Suntory before splitting off to open his own distillery. They have 2 distilleries in Japan, Yoichi in Hokkaido and Miyagikyo in Honshu as well as the Ben Nevis distillery in Scotland. They produce a range of Malt and Grain whiskies in addition to a Gin and Vodka.
