Kilkerran has been produced at the Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown Scotland since 2004. The distillery was reopened by J&A Mitchell & Co., the family that owns the nearby Springbank Distillery. Kilkerran is normally a lightly peated whisky but this small batch release is heavily peated. It is bottled at cask strength with no added color nor chill-filtration.
A departure from our typically lightly peated single malt, our Heavily Peated Kilkerran is released twice per year at cask strength and around 45PPM. Although the maturation can vary, it is typically matured predominantly in Bourbon casks.
Nose: Notes of freshly baked shortbread, cream soda, banana loaf and coconut shavings introduce this heavily peated dram.
Palate: The creamy, vanilla notes carry through to the palate in notes of buttered digestive biscuits and custard creams.
Finish: The peat is prominent in the finish, along with hints of gooseberries to round off this dram.
