Tapatio Blanco Tequila

The original flagship brand of La Alteña Distillery prior to their launch of El Tesoro de Don Felipe. The Camarena Family have been agave farmers for 6 generations and distillers of Tequila for 4 generations. Carlos Camarena is the master distiller and also the owner and founder of Tequila Ocho and Los Alambiques Distillery. Fully mature highland agaves are brick oven roasted and milled with a tahona and a roller mill. The mash is fermented with the agave fibers in open top wooden fermentation tanks and then double distilled in copper pots.

This is a classic, old school brand founded in 1940. It wasn't available in the US until 2012 so when bartender friends would visit Jalisco, we used to ask them to bring it back to us. The price is shockingly affordable for a Tequila of this quality, heritage and provenance. Complex flavors of agave, citrus, and pepper with anise and mint.
