MHOBA Rum Sihhenge Pineapple Rum

MHOBA is a distillery and brand in South Africa who make Agricole-style cane juice rum from locally sourced organic sugar cane. This is a pineapple rum that is simply a blend of 2 unaged marques of their Agricole-style Rum infused with fresh Queen Natal pineapple, a low acid varietal from the neighboring Kwazulu-Natal region, for 2 weeks. The brand is a partnership between MHOBA founder Robert Greaves and Holmes Cay, a New York-based independent bottler of rum. It is wild and funky, with notes of pineapple rind, grilled/caramelized pineapple, some grassy cane funk, and barbeque spice on the nose. On the palate, it's relatively dry with more funky cane juice rum notes and some baking spices. Probably the most interesting and compelling "flavored" rum we've ever tasted!
