Don Amado Arroqueño

Don Amado is the brand of the Arellanes family at their distillery Real de Minas in Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca. Their family has been distilling Mezcal for 11 generations at their palenque Real de Minas. This batch was made from cultivated Arroqueño that took 18 years to come to full maturity. The agaves were cooked with guachimil and mesquite wood for 4 days in an earthen oven. The agaves were crushed with a mechanical shredder and fermented with ambient yeasts in 1400 liter pine vats. The mash was double distilled in Barro de Olla clay pot stills and proofed with demineralized water to 46% ABV. 

An approachable Mezcal with agave sweetness and some savory depth. A remarkably affordable price point for a clay pot distillate as well.

Producer Tasting Notes:
Bright floral aromatics of caramelized maguey, leather and soft smoke lend structure to ripe, cooked yam fruit flavors. A supple mouthfeel delivers quince, persimmon, lemon verbena and kaffir, juxtaposed with layered chocolate, espresso and savory spice with balanced minerality and savory roast characteristics.
