Angelica Garcia Vasquez is a second generation Maestra Mezcalera/Distiller from San Baltazar Chichicapam, Oaxaca. Her husband built a palenque 25 years ago on their property and produced mezcal for 15 years until he tragically passed away in an accident. In order to provide for herself and her 4 children, Angelica fully took the reins of production and continues to this day with the help of her family.
She harvests wild grown Cuishe from the surrounding area and pit roasts them with encino wood. The cooked agaves are crushed with a stone tahona and naturally fermented in wooden tinas. They are then twice distilled in wood fired copper alembic stills. Cuishe is from the Karwinskii family of agaves and has the characteristic vegetal and earthy/minerally notes that you would expect from that Agave. It also has some lovely agave sweetness and very little smokiness. A tasty and shockingly affordable Mezcal considering the agave varietal and that it is wild grown.
