Pekut & Carwick Prunus Mume Umeshu Liqueur

Ume are an extremely tart varietal of plum that originally come from Japan. They are very often macerated with rock sugar and spirit for a long period of time to make a bittersweet ambrosial liqueur called Umeshu. 

Pekut & Carwick are a Berkeley based independent bottler and distributor of spirits with a focus on sustainability, transparency, and quality. This is their umeshu that they produce with organically farmed, California grown Ume, organic sugar and neutral spirits. Prunus Mume is the name of the tree that Ume come from. It is aggressively tart with some pitty marzipan notes, stonefruit sweetness, preserved lemon, and a note of chocolate taffy on the finish. Prizefighter Bottle Shop owner Polly loves it as a nightcap and owner Dylan enjoys it as a digestivo after a big meal, almost like a replacement for Amaro. It is also lovely with a healthy splash of Club Soda. This is definitely one of the best and most complex Umeshu that we've ever had.
