Gotha "Marcvs" Vermouth Rosso Imperiale
18% ABV
Vermouth Rosso Imperiale outside of Bologna, Italy by a former bartender named Ergin Allko. Made from a base of Sicilian Frappato, a fruity and complex red wine, and infused with cacao, coffee, bitter orange and other botanicals. It has huge aromas of chocolate and cherries and a gorgeous, supple mouthfeel. This makes a lovely after dinner drink served over ice with an orange peel, served with a chocolate dessert. It also makes a decadent Negroni.
"Gotha Spiriti Nobili is the creation of Ergin Allko, a bartender and bar proprietor who emigrated from Albania to Italy when he was 18 years old to study in the university town of Bologna. At the time of Gotha’s launch Ergin had also lived in Italy for 18 years, and his spirits are very much influenced by his connection to both, the most evident being his use of purified seawater from the Adriatic Sea (the body of water that separates Italy and Albania) in all of his products.
For the Marcvs, Ergin imagined a dinner party with Marcus Aurelius as the guest of honor and this vermouth is his answer for what to serve. He started with a base wine made from Frappato, already adding weight to the final product with the selection of a red wine. He then deftly blends roasted cacao bean, coffee bean, bitter orange (and other botanicals) with two types of wormwood for a result worthy of an imperial dinner. Notes of macerated cherries create a rich mouthfeel complemented by mocha and candied orange."
