Alvear Cream Sherry

18% ABV

Cream Sherry is a style that is a blend of dry Oloroso Sherry that is sweetened, usually with rectified sweetened grape must. Alvear is the oldest continuous wine producing bodega in Spain, having been founded in the early 18th century. They make Sherry-style wines in their bodega in Montilla-Moriles region, just north of the Sherry Triangle of Andalucia. We consider these wines to be Sherry in every way but legally as they have made wines of that style and production method for longer than any producer in the actual denomination of origin. In fact, "Amontillado" Sherry gets it's name from Montilla as the word actually means "in the style of Montilla".

This one is made from a Pedro Ximénez base wine fermented to 15% and fortified with neutral grape spirits to prevent the formation of Flor. The wines are aged in their soleras for a minimum of 8 years and are sweetened with Pedro Ximenez sweet wines, rather than the grape must that more industrial producers use. It is complex with a balanced raisiny sweetness and some nutty notes.
